Hap Tim Picknick-Rucksack Kühltasche für 4 Personen Vintage Braun

Out of the gate this is a good - but not a great picnic backpack. I am happy to have it, but I think were we to be using it more, I’d want to upgrade. But it is a decently solid, good backpack.

1. The colors. Not having a choice, this is fine, but eh. It’s personally taste, but we are not overwhelmed by the brown and these strips. They look fine and are respectable and decent, but not exciting - not that we need colorful or the like. They’re just... there. I think dull might be a good descriptor here.

2. The materials are average. It’ll last, for awhile. If you’re someone who is going to use this often and who gives your bags a fairly decent workout, I don’t think it’ll last. It’s stitched together fine, but the descriptor here would be average.

3. Carrying. This is a backpack, so you’re likely considering wearing it on your back. We have a number of bags that are backpacks that have far better straps - thicker, more comfortable. Again, the descriptor is average.

4. The plates, utensils, and wine opener... again, average. They are plastic, for safety, but they do feel like they’d break easily. One arrived with a pink smudge - like lipstick, but almost like it’s melted into the plastic. They work, they are fine to use, but there is no way we’d ever even try the dishwasher - all hand done. This is not unusual for such picnic ware, but at the same time, this feels... average in materials and manufacturing.

5. The napkins are literally just thin material, cut, and edged. They are again, average.

6. The blanket... yea, average. The material is not comfortable, but will work throwing down and staying off the grass or sand.

As I’ve thought about and written out this review it easily fell into a pattern: this set is average. If you’re looking for a workhorse, something you’re not going to be upset if it’s worn out by use, that it will make it, but... then this is going to be a great set. We use this kind of thing 4 or 5 times a year - but had wanted to have it to use more when we go to the beach, rather than piece-mealing bags together. We thought this would give us a one-shot bag. We will use it. We will enjoy it. But we know it’s not going to last. If we were still going to the Chicago area outdoor theater every summer, multiple times as we did when we lived there, we’d be going for a nicer, more durable set. But for the beach and for runs to the park or days out, yea, we’ll use this and use it hard, but won’t be surprised when it can’t take what we throw at it. This is a decent pack. It’s not higher, it’s not great, it’s solidly decent - good.

I have used the picnic backpack once and it performed nicely. It fits a LOT of items, which is great! The silverware is decent (I wish the forks had a better prong shape, they don't pick up food well) and relatively thick, the spreader worked great, the cutting board could be a bit bigger but was fine, the plates are very thin and get scratched by the knives very easily when cutting something like a sandwich (be careful with them and they should last a while, but you can also buy different plates of the same size if you like and still put them in the pack), we didn't use the wine cups (they're not glass, but are a decently thick plastic) but they came intact and the linens are stiff but did wash fine in the washer. I bought the 4-person picnic set knowing I'd only be picnicking with one other person but wanted the extra space. Taking out two of the cups gives extra space in the utensil compartment for a few more items!

The only reason this did not receive 5 stars is that the insulation itself seemed a bit weak. Both the main compartment and the side bottle/wine compartment did not keep things as cool as other insulated bags I've used. I have not had a chance to use the blanket yet, but it seemed to be of decent quality.

The real draw of this backpack is both the amount of space (just load it up with an extra ice or gel pack to keep items cold) and the fact that it's in backpack form, which makes it WAY more easy to carry than other insulated bags or picnic baskets! This would be ideal for picnics where you're going a bit off the beaten path and want your hands freer during the walk. The backpack was very comfortable. I even like the way it opens--you can sit the backpack on the ground and unzipper the utensil compartment and get to your plates and stuff without having to unload items out of the pack and get them dirty.

Overall, I would recommend this item for light picnic use off the beaten path :)
